The map building nesters presents breeding site of swifts, martins and swallows in three different levels of datasets. The datasets sitesspecies shows all sites related to the corresponding species. They are shown in several layers and datasets, one for each species.

The datasets locality_ and municipality_ show summaries for the corresponding geographical entities. The localities are presented as one dataset per species. The coverage following field work methods per locality is moreover displayed. Only one dataset municipality present all species together.

The aim of the Web-GIS project building nesters is to provide all those involved in nature conservation with the location and size of nesting sites for swifts, martins and swallows in buildings and other structures in Switzerland. 

Some data are the result of inventories carried out under official cantonal or municipal mandates. Others are the result of spontaneous observations, whether systematic or not.

The source of the observation is the building nester module of the online application PopMon. They are updated daily in Web-GIS. For more information on the Building nester module of PopMon, please contact delichon@vogelwarte.ch.

Data are collected at the building level with the Swiss federal buildings and dwellings register as main reference, from which buildings not registered are added, as well as nesting towers and other constructions (bridges and dams) where nests of building nesters have been reported. The reference layer (buildings_building) is updated yearly before the breeding season starts.

The data are controlled by the Swiss ornithological institute to some extend. However, we can not ascertain, that some mistakes might be entered, like a nest count in the wrong building for example.

The summaries of the area datasets are based on the available data. They should be considered as minimum values, potentially far from reality, mainly for localities that have not been systematically covered.
